Sabina

Sabina, A fascinating tree that for me represents resilience.  It stands there strong and beautiful with its twisted and gnarled trunk and branches, resisting the strong winds, the scorching sun, the abrupt changes in temperature...It's no wonder I love painting it, so when someone asks me to paint one, I accept happily. While I'm painting it, I am in a happy place with this amazing tree that transmits so much strength and positivity. This is my most recent one. I finished it this morning...it's kind of sad to let it go, but it has to go home with the person who asked me to paint it. (sigh)

Sabina, Un árbol fascinante que para mí representa la resistencia.  Siempre en pie fuerte y hermosa con su tronco y ramas retorcidas y nudosas, resistiendo los fuertes vientos, el sol abrasador, los cambios bruscos de temperatura ... No es de extrañar que me encante pintarla, así que cuando alguien me pide que le pinte uno, acepto sin problemas. Mientras la estoy pintando, estoy en un lugar feliz con este increíble árbol que transmite tanta fuerza y ​​positividad. Este es mi sabina más reciente. La he terminado esta mañana ... es un poco triste tener que dejarlo ir, pero tiene que irse a casa con la persona que lo encargó. (suspiro)

Artistic creations by recycling and reusing old or used materials

A few years ago, I started looking for ways in which to reduce our footprint in our environment by repurposing old or used materials that would otherwise end up in the trash can and, consequently, in landfills. I started out by making things out of paper maché and making collages using old photocopies left over from lessons. Then I started experimenting with other materials such as plastic bottles, glass bottles and jars, cardboard boxes, left over bits of wood, rings from soda cans, old doors and so on. I have posted some of these crafts on my Facebook page, however I must admit that I have been dedicating less time to my blog and I haven't shared any of  these ideas with my readers, except for the old door that I transformed for it to be the focal point of my exhibition in La Marina back in December 2015.

Today, I would like to share a few of these projects with you, and keep posting some more within the next few weeks.

Holiday decorations made out of plastic soda bottles and toilet roll.

A toy box made out of scraps of wood, MDF,  and CDs. The lid is upholstered using scrap foam rubber and a piece of plastic table cloth. It has wheels so, as well as providing storage, it can be used as a toy to drag or ride around on, and as the lid is cushioned, it can also be used as a seat.

Creaciones artísticas a partir de materiales para reciclar

Hace ya unos años que empecé a buscar maneras en las que pudiera reducir el impacto humano en nuestro medio ambiente y darle un nuevo propósito a materiales que de otra manera irían a la basura. Empecé haciendo papel maché y collages para reutilizar fotocopias que sobraban de mis clases y luego fui experimentando con botellas de plástico y también de vidrio, cartón, trozos de madera, anillas de las latas, puertas viejas, etc. He ido publicando algunas de las cosas que he hecho con estos materiales en mi página de Facebook, Arte Cristina Efres, pero tengo que admitir que al blog le estoy dedicando poco tiempo y no he compartido por aquí mis ideas para reciclar, salvo la vieja puerta que transformé para que fuera la pieza estrella de mi exposición  DE PUERTAS AFUERA en La Marina en diciembre de 2015

Hoy quiero enseñarles dos o tres de estos proyectos.

Caja de madera decorada con trozos de CDs y DVDs.

Decoraciones Navideñas hechas con botellas de plástico y tubos de cartón.

Baúl para juguetes realizado con retales de madera, DM y CDs. Tapa tapizada con restos de gomaespuma y retal de hule para que el baúl también sirva de asiento.

Cabecero de cama hecho con una vieja puerta de madera y sobrantes de listones de pino.
