Dicen que para muestra basta un botón...pues aquí les dejo tres! Son tres retratos realizados con materiales distintos.


Mi Padre

A lápiz, el retrato de mi padre. Fue un papá cariñoso y divertido, con un sentido del humor que, junto con su guitarra, le hacían el alma de todas las reuniones familiares y de amigos. Lo echo mucho de menos. El 10 de marzo fue su cumpleaños, y me apeteció ponerme a dibujar su cara tan querida. Lo hice a partir de una foto, pero por momentos dibujaba sin mirarla; me la sé de memoria porque la llevo grabada en el corazón.


Mi hijo

En pintura acrílica sobre lienzo, el retrato de mi hijo, con un estilo menos tradicional. Lo pinté sobre un lienzo y se lo regalé para su cumpleaños.


Un encargo

El retrato de una pareja de "jovencitos" que celebraban sus bodas de plata. Sus hijos me encargaron un retrato dibujado en color con sus caras enmarcadas por dos alianzas entrelazadas. Fue realizado a pastel y lápiz de color.

An Auction For a Very Good Cause

As my readers already know, the works of art donated to PerpetuArte by the participating artists were auctioned on Friday, the 2nd of March at the closing ceremony of the exhibition at the "Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas" in Yaiza. Over 2500 euros were raised to improve the quality of life of cancer patients in Lanzarote at the auction - half of the pieces donated were sold at the event. This is just the first step towards the organization's objective of raising 30,000 euros a year to provide a psychotherapist specialized in oncology for the hospital in Arrecife.

We have successfully taken this first step thanks to the support received from, first of all the Town Hall in Yaiza by agreeing to help PerpetuArte organize the event in their culture center, the people who came to visit the exhibition, and especially those who came to closing night and bid for the works of art. We still have a lot of work to do, however, to make people aware of the need to bring solidarity closer to home. Sometimes we are so ready to go to great lengths to help out when disasters occur around the world, which is a good thing - don't get me wrong, but we forget, or we simply don't see, that there are many right under our noses who need our help. Who doesn't have a family member, friend or acquaintance that has been affected by cancer, or is, in fact, this very moment fighting the disease, which is so difficult to come to terms with both emotionally and psychologically? These patients, their families and the people who care for them need support from a specialized professional. We can all help to achieve this by participating and helping out associations created for this purpose, such as PerpetuArte and AFOL (Asociación de Familias Oncológicas de Lanzarote).

I'm very proud and grateful of having had the opportunity to participate is this exhibition and would like to thank the President of PerpetuArte, Mereces Crespo for inviting me to take part in the project, and congratulate her for her hard work. I would also like to list my fellow artists, who participated and donated their artwork, in recognition of their generosity and solidarity.

Una Subasta Con Muy Buen Fin

Como mis lectores ya saben, el pasado 2 de marzo tuvo lugar la subasta de las obras donadas por los artistas que participamos en la exposición colectiva de PerpetuArte. Se recaudaron más de 2500 euros para mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes oncológicos de Lanzarote en este primer proyecto de PerpetuArte. Es el primer paso en el objetivo de conseguir recaudar unos 30.000 euros anuales para dotar al hospital de Arrecife con un psicoterapéuta especialista en oncología. Aún hay que trabajar mucho y concienciar a la gente de la necesidad de ser solidarios, no sólo cuando hay grandes catástrofes en el mundo, si no también, y diría yo que en primer lugar, hay que ser solidarios con los que tenemos cerca - en este caso, son pacientes luchando con una enfermedad, tan díficil de afrontar anímicamente, como el cáncer. Necesitan apoyo psicológico, no sólo los pacientes si no también sus familiares y cuidadores.

Me siento orgullosa de formar parte de esta iniciativa y muy agradecida a su Presidenta Mercedes Crespo, al Ayuntamiento de Yaiza por colaborar en la organización del evento en su Casa de la Cultura, y también a mis compañeros, esos artistas generosos que donaron su arte para esta causa que nos ha tocado a todos de alguna manera - ¿quién no tiene un familiar, un amigo o un conocido que haya luchado o esté luchando contra el cáncer?

Quiero, desde aquí, felicitar a Mercedes Crespo por su gran labor, y a los artistas que participaron conmigo en esta exposición:
